How do I track the profit on my card collection?
Record what each card cost you, or what it was worth when you got it, then compare that with today's market value; the difference is your profit or loss. When you sell, record the sale price so the gain becomes real rather than estimated. Bull Run does this for you, showing profit and loss for your whole collection, each game and set, and each card.
Profit is value minus what you put in
For each card you need two numbers: what it is worth now and what it cost you. Profit or loss is the first minus the second. Add those up across the collection and you have your overall profit or loss. A percentage is that number divided by what you put in.
What did a card cost if you did not buy it?
Many cards come from packs or trades, not purchases. A fair way to count them is the card's market value on the day you got it. For pack pulls you could also split what you paid for the packs across the cards you kept. Pick one way and use it every time, so your numbers stay honest.
Count your sales too
When you sell a card, write down what you actually got after fees and shipping. Profit you have locked in by selling is different from profit that only exists on paper. A card that is up today can fall tomorrow; a card you sold cannot.
Watch the trend, not one day
Card prices move up and down. Looking at your collection over weeks and months tells you more than any single day. Remember that market values are estimates; what a buyer pays can be higher or lower.
How Bull Run does it
- Add your cards by scanning, searching, or importing a file. When you add a card you can type a price paid (paid, traded for, or pulled). If you leave it blank, the app uses the card's market value around the day you added it, as an estimate.
- Open the Collection tab. Above the chart, switch between Value and P&L (profit and loss), and pick a time range from 1W to 3Y.
- Sort your cards by P&L to see your biggest winners and losers. Each game and set has its own chart with the same switch.
- Open any card you own to see its Total P&L. It says est. basis when it is based on an estimate rather than a price you entered. Type what you really paid to make it exact.
- When you remove a card, the app asks what it sold for and what it was worth when you got it (filled in with an estimate you can change). Entering both turns it into real profit instead of a gap in your history. Or set a copy's status to Sold to keep it listed without counting it in your value.
Your overall P&L percentage also shows on your Profile.
Which plan includes it?

More questions
What if I don't know what I paid for a card?
Leave the price paid blank. The app estimates it from the card's market value around the day you added it and marks it as an estimate, so you can correct it later.
Why does a set's chart say profit cannot be worked out?
When none of those copies has a purchase price recorded, the chart shows value instead of profit. Adding a price paid fixes it.
Does importing keep my purchase prices?
Yes, if your file has a price paid or cost column. Collectr screenshot imports have no purchase price, so those cards start at today's value.
Is the profit figure exact?
It is an estimate. It uses market prices, which can differ from what a buyer would actually pay you.
